Despite a humid Sunday morning, over 15,000 runners participated in the Philly Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon. The weather for my marathon training has been very pleasant. But, running in humid weather is tough. My team, consisted of Ali, Stephanie, and Tyrrell. We  took off with Eminem’s song, “Lose Yourself” barring in our ears. Our goal was to sustain around a 10:00-10:15 pace per mile. The team did a great job weaving me in and out of crowded runners. Thanks to Tyrrell, we made sure we got water at each water station. At the fourth mile, a band was singing “Fly Eagles Fly”! The best song of the day!  By the sixth mile, I was able to run without my tether. I used the birght yellow double lines to focus on while running. Tyrrell continued to alert runners ahead that I was coming thru. We eventually got to Falls Bridge, about 9th mile and headed back to the finish line. I was feeling good despite achy toes. When we reached the 12th mile, for some reason, I was mentally and physically exhausted. Man, I had to fight hard to keep telling myself that I was almost there. Tyrrell was extremely positive and continued to spat out encouraging words!  Crossing that finish line felt sooooooo good – foruth half marathon in the books. I felt really proud of myself and for my team for their support. I PRed this by 8 minutes with a best time of 2:13:25. Wahoooo! Noting taste better than a cold bottle of water (except a craft beer!) after a long, hot run!

Overall, the race went really well! I was proud of my myself and my Achilles team! I thank my wonderful wife, Kay, and other Achilles peeps who did not run but cheered us on! Job well done to the Achilles athletes and their guides!

This is the halfway mark in my training for the marathon. Next up – 17 miles! Wow!
